From time to time, you hear one say,
"I'm spiritual, not religious.' I don't get involved in organized
religion.'"
While it's true that church
attendance and membership doesn't make one a Christian, a Christian who is not
actively involved in a local Christian church will not live as good a Christian
life as they would have had they been involved.
From the beginning of Christianity,
it has been the practice of local groups of Christians to meet together on the
first day of the week (Sunday.)1
In fact, the Bible encourages us
not to forsake this practice;2
the Church has so much to offer.
When we separate ourselves from
active participation in a local church, we begin to drift in our Christian life.
Eventually we will become more concerned with the things of the world than the
things of God; we've lost our focus.
Church participation gives us an
opportunity to be with other Christians in worshiping God. It's, also,
where we can learn more about God through group Bible study and the preaching of
the Bible. As we're actively involved, we get the opportunity to serve God
in many ways. The Church, also, holds us accountable in the way we live our
lives; it's where we receive encouragement.
We must remember that as God's
child, we must try to live a life that is most pleasing to Him.
